How we work
Our diverse team provides support to all victims of domestic abuse regardless of gender, age, disabilities, sexuality or ethnicity. We know that the needs and perspectives of people coming from minoritisied backgrounds may require different approaches to provide effective support.
We will respond quickly to all requests for support and are pro-active and flexible in our approach, while working with all clients at their own pace. No matter what stage they are at in their journey or how many times they have been referred, we will always offer support to victims. We are committed to working in a trauma informed way, with an understanding of the long term impact trauma has. All our team are highly trained and have the skills, experience and knowledge to offer effective, high-quality support. They understand how complex each situation can be and provide support for both short-term crisis intervention and longer-term recovery.
Our service
PDAP Outreach services provides one to one support in the community offering advice, safety planning and crisis intervention, and support to remain in your own property for anyone female, male or non-binary, aged 16+ living in Kirklees. IDVAs (Independent Domestic Abuse Advocates) support people at high risk of harm caused by Domestic Abuse. Support is provided at point of crisis, with an emphasis on reducing immediate risk, implementing safety plans, and offering holistic support in other areas, as well as supporting victims to access and navigate through the Criminal Justice System.
We can support clients who wish to remain in their own property through the installation of security measures (where safe) or we can support them to access safe alternative accommodation. Our support may include access to civil orders, benefits, employment and training, and access to our group work programme which helps clients understand and recover from the abuse they have experienced.

I need somewhere to stay. Can you help?
PDAP has three refuges across Huddersfield which vary in size and facilities, with some communal areas and your own private room. We have resources and facilities to support women and children with special needs and disabilities, assessed on an individual basis. One of our refuges is a specialist refuge for black and Asian minoritised women with or without children. Unfortunately, PDAP refuges cannot accommodate male victims of domestic abuse but we can provide support to men who need to access emergency accommodation.
Everyone accessing refuge accommodation is allocated a specialist domestic abuse support worker throughout the time they are living in the refuge. Refuge accommodation can be paid for in a range of ways. Many women can claim help from housing benefit. We will talk to you about this when you first contact us and we will help you to look at your options.
If you are not safe in Kirklees PDAP can help you find a refuge in another area in the UK.
